The story of my rejected Logo

I moved to Illustrator! I have been using Adobe Express for a bit and i feel like I have to upgrade my logo game.. so there I was.

Throughout this process, I learned that design doesn't really happen overnight.. you make one and let it sink in. And then you'll notice something and you'll want to change it. It evolves, so I better give myself a couple of days or weeks to think things through as I dive through design projects.

Unfortunately for branding, once you lock down on an idea and draw it out, it's there forever so it can be remembered. A logo is your ID for your brand, so it's important that there's a process behind it. Fortunately for me, I don't really have any deadlines so I can play around and spend more time, even years (!) to develop my logo.

The original concept

I have this concept that I spent time drawing on, and it felt super lacking, so simple. I was hung up on my idea of computer and mirror joined together by some weird lightning thingy. The illustration looks so child like.

I sought help from ChatGPT.. how would it improve my toddler design. And here is one of the suggestions that I found interest in. At first it doesn't make sense but then it clicked.

Chatgpt’s Suggestion

It's an abstract concept. The logo doesn't have to be literal. And knowing my inclination, I long for something more abstract. So there it is, the logomark was born.

I made the whole work, even patterns, colors and things. I had to decide on colors first, it's actually what lead to the redesign. When you hear of moonlippy, you'd like to see something bright and cutesy. So I rethought it through, I want something bright and poppy.. with a touch of vintage. I don't know how it falls through but the mood board somehow captured it!

Finally my new logo concept, complete with patterns and stuff… For a time I thought this was it, they look so perfect.

But then I felt it’s not really enough, and not really representative of what I do. Hence, concept #1000 was born

I thought I could finally move on but it just doesn't feel right, I still need the Moonlippy Girl but maybe with open eyes this time. So here we are… I don’t know if this is gonna be it. We’ll see
