iWeb to Wordpress: This is it!

Blogger's Note

I started blogging circa 2004. Apart from my slightly poor grammar skills then, my mind was very different at the time. I threw away majority of my previous journal entries out of shame 😅 . But some made it to the cut, like this one, just something to laugh at or roll eyes with.

I am currently enjoying this big switch (Me/iWeb -> 000webhost/Wordpress). Well, the migration of all entries would still definitely be a headache since I'm probably the only one (among the few) who uses iWeb's fancy drag and drop site creation tool. There really aren't any nice resources out there in the web to help me. Haven't began the real migration yet that's why my past entries aren't here yet. I'm organizing everything first so everything here will temporarily be about the *boring* migration stuff. Plus maybe some out of the blue thoughts (which I believe will appear here most of the time), of course. Anyway, here's the most helpful site that I have so far:

The guys at Apple did admit their mistakes of their own migration last year (from .mac to me), which really caused a lot of brouhahas to all their subscribers. Which includes me, because I was feeling "all alone" back then so I need to blog often, like every hour for every damn day (a little exaggerated but partially true during the weekends). Until they gave 2 months extension free. 2-3 days of down time in exchange to 2 month free subscription made me celebrate. Unfortunately, my 2 months extension is almost up. And I need to decide right away, "to renew or not to renew?"

Obviously I decided not to renew. But later on, when the economy stabilizes once again (so are my *hay* finances), I'm renewing my Me account. My videos (a.k.a. self-selling-shows) are all there! :)

No offense to Apple, I love all their products. It's just the loading time that I'm whining about. Nonetheless, I had a great time at iWeb. The layouts are cool and dandy. When the layout is cool, the thoughts will come. Same is true for the environment. When the environment is nice and cozy, the writing will be nice and cozy. When the environment is dirty, the writing will also be dirty. I better stay away from the dirty. ;)

I'm feeling ecstatic about Wordpress. Here are the reasons why:

1. Variety. There are millions of themes to choose from. And this theme is the best so far, it's Mac-ish and is perfect for my "dear diary" mood. - just changed to this fence design. And I love it! :) Plus, it complies with that W3C standards. I didn't know actually what the hell those standards are. And I didn't care, until NOW. As in only today! Peace to y'all SEO friends!

2. Ease of Installation. And I thought first that the installation would give me headache too. But it's more like a copy-paste type. Just a few tweaks and clicks with the configuration file and the database setup.

3. Flexibility! You can edit all those codes and change the look a little. But there's really no need to be a PHP aficionado to do all these. Plus, the best part is that you can design your own layout! I'll be doing that soon! Please pray for me ...and please also give me free full version of Photoshop or Aperture (No to piracy! But I accept gifts. :D). The trial versions won't be that reliable if I wanted to be a web design goddess... Saaad!!

4. Fast Loading Time. Actually this is really the first reason why I decided to make the big switch.

There are plenty more reasons, but that's what I had came up so far.

Meanwhile, it's like I'm beginning my web site all over again. Because I'm thinking of the content organization one more time. Like, what categories, tags, etc... Another overhead, but enjoying them anyway.
