From Backend to Frontend

I used to believe that I am really a backend type of girl - you know, services or anything that would support the applications or systems you present to your users. I enjoy backend coding, TDD, anything java programming. I spent too much time and money to just prove that.

As you grow older, you tend to become too comfortable on what you have, or what you know, and you tend to stick with it (a.k.a. comfort zone). I always have that instinct of not sticking with what I know, I always wanted to expand my horizon and continuously explore out of my comfort zone. I wonder when will that ever stop. :D

There are quite a number of things that I avoid because I just didn't like them.

Photography is one of the things that I refuse to learn because I always wanted to be in front of the camera (like a model :roll: ). But soon I found myself wanting to learn the whole thing. More on that in a separate post.

Another thing that I always avoid is frontend development. Frontend is just my general term for HTML, CSS, Javascript... Anything that you see when you right-click a website and "View Source", or "Inspect". Those are important because those are the languages you use to convey the look and feel of your site, as well as the experience that you want your visitors to have.

Ironically, frontend was actually the force that lead me into taking Computer Science in College. I was so drawn into HTML and web design during high school (long long ago) and wished to pursue them. But for some reason I, not anyone, turned myself down because I thought that I was "not creative enough".

Being creative is a good thing, but it's not the only thing you need when implementing frontend stuff. I used to think that frontend development is too easy. But it's not. Actually, I think that backend is easier than frontend nowadays.. but that's just my opinion. Frontend development requires you to be meticulous and patient, when certain elements of your page just wouldn't look like what you wanted them to look like. You also need to be detailed - any irregularities in indentations, paragraphs, etc.. should be taken care of. There are a lot more reasons I suppose.

Thankfully, my blogging energy just overflowed and it brought with it the desire to do my own design (or my own WordPress theme). I'm aiming to improve my aesthetic abilities so I won't rely too much on someone (or papi) to review design for me.

I'm looking at taking baby steps to achieve that - like Child Theme-ing first. After a successful Child-Theme launch, I'll then start from scratch :)
